Dr Adriano da Silva Marinho
Adriano completed his PhD in 2019 at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His research explored how prolonged and repeated use of virtual reality video games can affect human health.
He is now a software engineer at Kraken in Brisbane, Australia. Graduating into the COVID-19 pandemic, Adriano decided not to pursue an academic career and instead transitioned into industry.
In his interview, Adriano discusses the importance of choosing the right supervisor, how he found his own, the skills he developed during his PhD, and how he applies them in his current role. He also reflects on how his doctoral experience has shaped his career path and where he is today.
Without his PhD, Adriano believes he would not have developed the key skills essential to his work as a software engineer, nor would he be living in Australia or have become an Australian citizen!
