PhD Students: Where are they now?
Dr Rim Yassine Kassab
Rim completed her PhD in 2023, where she studied the politics of urban transformation at the University of Liverpool. Her research was motivated by the need for cities in the global south to be taken seriously.
Rim is currently a Programme Coordinator and Lecturer in Urban Planning and Architecture at NIMAR, Leiden University, and the International University of Rabat. She is also a research fellow at the African Studies Centre Leiden.
In her interview, she discusses her research and shares advice on choosing the right supervisor. She was supervised by Iain Jackson, and highlighted in her interview how his support, not only during the PhD but afterwards, shaped her as a researcher.
Rim also reflects on her career path in the year following her PhD. She describes her search for roles that strike a balance between academia and meaningful impact on policy and communities, and concludes by outlining her hopes for the future.
