Driven by a fascination with bridges as a child, Professor Eva Lantsoght had always wanted to become an engineer. The high level of science and mathematics involved within the field, with an interest in structures, drove her to pursue an academic career that allows her to give back to society and make an impact through future learners.
Eva is currently a Professor of structural engineering at Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Quito, Ecuador, she is also a part-time associate professor at Delft University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands. Eva’s academic career started after completing her PhD when she successfully secured a faculty position in Ecuador, as well as a postdoc position which provided an opportunity to continue at Delft University of Technology.
One of Eva’s favourite aspects of her job is research. She is involved in cutting-edge developments within her area of expertise. With over 150 indexed publications, she is a prominent figure in her field, contributing to various international technical committees and editorial boards. She incorporates this research into her teaching to ensure her students can understand real-world problems and find solutions to meet society’s needs.
Teaching is the most rewarding aspect of Eva’s career in academia. Mentoring a new generation of researchers allows her to give back and provides her with opportunities for personal growth and learning.
