Meet the Host
Emily Walsh

Emily Walsh is Associate Director for Mathematics and Statistics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), where she leads the Mathematics and Statistics cluster and champions maths outreach and widening participation. She is passionate about engaging young people with mathematics, with a long-standing collaboration with the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) and a history of delivering Royal Institution Masterclasses across the region.
Emily joined UWE as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics in 2014, following a post-doctoral research position at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, and a PhD and KTP Fellowship at the University of Bath undertaken in collaboration with the Met Office. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research focuses on adaptive mesh numerical methods for solving partial differential equations, with particular application to meteorological problems. She is a member of The Newton Gateway Scientific Advisory Panel, a Knowledge Exchange Champion for the UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences, and serves on the committee for HoDoMS (Heads of Departments of Mathematical Sciences in the UK).
