Best CV Proofreading Techniques And Tools

best cv

Writing your best CV is a nerve-wracking business. You want it to stand out from all the other CVs your potential employer is going to read. You need them to see just why they should hire you. It’s a tough world out there for job hunters though, and you need to work to get seen. Employers will automatically throw out CVs with errors, so your best bet is to proofread that document thoroughly before you send it. Try these tips to get the most out of your CV.

  1. Write your CV with the job listing in mind

When applying for jobs, it’s best to rewrite your CV with that job in mind. You can tweak it to show the relevant experience you have. It also shows you’re willing to put the effort in to get noticed.

  1. Read your writing out loud

Once you’re done writing, read your CV out loud. It’s the best way to spot mistakes that you won’t notice written down. You can also check that it flows properly when read.

  1. Check your dates

When putting in your employment history, check that all your dates are correct. You don’t want a future employer to check on them and see that they’re wrong, as it can make you look sloppy.

  1. Design is important

There are several things you need to keep in mind when designing your CV. You want to ensure there’s a decent amount of white space, so the reader isn’t bombarded with text. Also, you need to pick a font that’s easy to read and looks professional. Make sure your name and contact information is at the top of the CV, so it’s easy for the reader to find it again when they need to contact you. In short, make sure that it’s easy to read and understand your CV.

  1. Use online writing tools

There’s plenty of tools out there that can make the proofreading process much easier. Here are a couple of examples that are worth checking out.

  • Slick Write: This tool gives you more statistics than you’ll ever need on your writing, great if you’re worried you’re using certain words too often.
  • Language Tool: This proofreading tool can be used in over 20 different languages.

While writing and proofreading your CV, remember that the goal of this task is to show yourself off. You need to show that you’re smart, capable of presenting information, and able to perform the job at hand. Using these tips means you’ll have a super polished CV that’s sure to win you lots of interviews.
