In Conversation with Lia Henry
Lia Henry works for the Global Banking School GBS as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. In 2022, Lia changed her career path and went from graduating with a 2:1 in a Bachelor of Law to becoming an Associate recruitment consultant at Hays. It didn’t take long for her to progress yearly in her career and swiftly move to GBS as a Talent Acquisition Specialist.
Global Banking School provided Lia with an opportunity to place people into roles that genuinely support students’ success and learning.

Progress your career in education
Once Lia found her passion for working in the education sector, there was no stopping her. In the past two years, she has progressed tremendously, soaking up an excessive amount of knowledge and growing and developing in every opportunity sent her way.
Lia has committed to the continuous development of her career, undergone upskilling courses such as REC and CIPD, and within the courses, developed a lot of skills and knowledge within her field.
Memorable moments in your career
In 2025, Lia was awarded ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at the British Recruitment Awards. To receive such an award was extremely validating as it represented true recognition across her field and against her peers. Not to mention seeing the long-term impact of the people that Lia hires and their contributions towards student success.
Opportunities in education
During Lia’s career in education and working as a talent acquisition, it has given multiple opportunities to work with diverse teams and engage with people from various backgrounds in all walks of life, as well as contributing to widening access to education. Lia’s career journey has given her a strong sense of purpose and contributed to her professional growth.
Reflecting on your journey so far
It is important to note that a key lesson in Lia’s journey is the importance of cross-department collaboration. One of the most important is the collaboration with talent acquisition and marketing. Cross-collaboration plays an important part within her role as it allows her to attract the best-suited candidates across all areas of the business, meaning they have the best-suited people to support their students.
Advice on how to progress in your career
There is no surprise Lia wishes to share some top tips to help others progress in their career.
Lia’s first tip is to take risks and be open to learning; don’t be afraid to pivot or build strong relationships.
Don’t forget, progression often comes from consistency, curiosity and taking opportunities, even if they feel slightly out of your comfort zone.
